Books For BoysBooks for Boys explores the cultural landscape in the decades leading up to the conflict and in particular, the influences on the young men who so readily volunteered in 1914.


The exhibition celebrates a Golden Age of books for children and many of the authors whose work is displayed remain popular today. The late Victorian and Edwardian era introduced readers to classics such as The Jungle Book, as well as new genres, such as the spy novel.

Artists and those interested in finding out about artistic process are invited to hear Sea Music Artist in Residence Jonathan Parsons discuss how he developed his work in response to Sea Music during his residency at Poole Museum. He will also talk about next steps in making the work for exhibition in October 2017.

Thursday 16 March 2017 - Fire Walk for Forest Holme Hospice

 

6-9pm

 

"It may be a bit uncomfortable and will definitely require focus and mind over matter, but when I consider what my brave mum, sister and other cancer patients go through and how much suffering they endure I think the fire walk will be a walk in the park - albeit a hot one!"


Fire up your determination and inner strength and join Forest Holme Hospice to walk across hot coals to raise money for patients going through their own challenge.


Registration is just £25 and we ask for a commitment to raising £100 in sponsorship.

It’s 1937: Amelia Earhart, the most famous person on the planet, has gone missing in her silver Electra aeroplane, just as she was approaching the final leg of her first round-the-world flight. 40 years later – and 2,000 miles away in Australia – an elderly woman discovers a jar of freckle cream on the beach.


Could it offer a clue to the disappearance of Amelia?


The show is performed by a cast of four singers, accompanied by a live band and a big range of percussion instruments. Ask questions and meet the cast after the show.

Simon Weston shares his experiences of triumphing over adversity


The Tank Museum is delighted to welcome Simon Weston CBE, a champion in overcoming hardship, for the Museum's first lecture of 2017.


In 1982 the Sir Galahad was destroyed in Bluff Cove on the Falkland Islands. On board was Simon Weston, Welsh Guardsman, a name and face that was going to become well known for his struggle to overcome his injuries (46% burns) and redefine his role in life. Simon's message is one of achievement, of seizing the moment and succeeding.
